April 12, 2019 Format: Prime Video I did not read the book ahead of time nor did I know that there was a series of books. I really like the story. It is very real and relateable. Who hasn't fallen head over heels in love and gotten lost in a new love? Who hasn't experienced that earth shattering moment or relationship that changed everything for you? This plot line is well known to us all. The innocent young thing meets the bad boy and she changes him and he changes her. Their hearts are set on fire and their lives are changed forever. Honestly takes me back to all the times I was in a new relationship, where it was all passion, fireworks and excitement. Very nostalgic and enjoyable. Liked this movie so much that I bought all of the books in the series!!! Cant wait for the next one!!!! June 29, 2019 Format: Prime Video Verified Purchase If anyone read the book on wattpad, this movie will piss you off. They completely butchered it. They were supposed to be a seriously problematic couple who fought all the time. Nothing about this movie was correct. There was only one scene of conflict. I don't recommend even trying to watch it if you read any part of the series because you will spend the whole time confused knowing what's actually supposed to be happening. I would give this movie ZERO stars if it allowed me to. June 30, 2019 Format: Prime Video Verified Purchase I read all the books twice or more each because I love this story. The movie was just not convincing enough. The characters did a poor job of convincing us that was happening was real. There was not enough emotion into it even Selma Blair character was lacking. Which was very surprising because she is a great actress. I wanted to wait until it was free on amazon prime or Netflix I should have listened to myself. July 5, 2019 Format: Prime Video Verified Purchase i loved these books... read them all over and over... lost track of how many times i have read them... didn't realize the movie was out and was looking through some rent/buy movies and i had to have it... figured why the heck not?? i love these characters.. i appreciate the actors they did pick. a few people i really pictured a bit differently... i love Selma Blair... she is a genius.. so fun!! i pray she will be okay to do the other movies. let me see she has MS, i think? so heartbreaking to hear she has to deal with that... i hope her ability to do the picture or pictures in the future will not happen.. i loved her in this flick. Peter Gallagher loved him in Cover Affairs. so many great folks. i think in this movie (and book) u just can recall what it was like to be a kid... first love. can't wait for more... come on... i am totally ready!! June 26, 2019 Format: Prime Video Verified Purchase I went to the movie theater as soon as the movie was out. However, I decided to pre-order it as well since it was advertised that it will include bonus scenes. I am giving one start because I was hoping to see the bonus scenes and not pay double for the same movie. I am honestly disappointed. July 17, 2019 Format: Prime Video Verified Purchase I read the books, in my opinion the movie was slightly different from the books but still good to watch. I love who they cast for the characters. I have watched this movie several times since I bought it. I think the book is better but the movie has its own greatness. The books can make you a little irritated with Tessa & cause they leave out a lot of the hardy drama from the books it allows you to appreciate Tessa & Hardin a little more in the movie. October 12, 2019 Format: Prime Video Verified Purchase I rented this on Prime and wished I had known it would be on Netflix soon. The movie didn't make a lot of sense and in reading the reviews discovered that like most movies it was adapted from a book(s) which is not always a bad thing. I have read a lot of books and I know that the movie can't always be exactly like the book. In this case, it's a good thing because the books are just really, really bad. However, this movie is so far removed from what the books are about that you have no idea why they are together. They left out about 90% of the book from the movie and there are to be more movies. They had the chance to make the movie what the book lacked wich is an SL. The best part of the books was the relationship building between Tessa and Landon/Liam and with Hardin/Harry's family. While the books had far too much fighting, screaming and leaving and coming back the movie needed it. There was just far too little conflict in the movie and there were zero reasons to want these two to be together. I could go on and on but I doubt it will make little difference in whether you rent it or not. I can't blame anyone but the Author because she was the scriptwriter and very very few Authors get to have any control about how their book is adapted to the big screen. While the books are a very YA version of Fifty Shades of Grey the Author was smart enough to not include that in the movie. I imagine E. L. James would have been fairly pissed lol. Watch the movie for free because it isn't worth the price of admission. There are 293 customer reviews and 744 customer ratings.

Love your accent, great reading as always. Movie Watch afterwards. Afterwards movie watch online. Theres no point on this planet 5000 miles from land, cant be more than 1700miles away at any point of the ocean. I watched the movie and the ending was so sad. Chandler Riggs.

So for everyone who has read the book, I think they made this trailer purposefully light and romantic and happy, with only hints to the seriousness of the book, for a reason. I think they purposefully made the trailer seem light and happy so as to not give away the whole plot of the film/book. I don't think the actual movie will just ignore the important parts of the book.

Blood on Her names. Beck! Shouldn't have dated Joe Goldberg. I dont want to see this, theyve turned it into a light cliche romance when that wasnt the point of the book. I dont see the raw reality and emotions of what they both were going through. The boy doesnt look edgy at all, like different/bad news like he was supposed to in the book. Ellie fanning is pretty but she lacks depth in every character Ive ever seen her play. Idk I wish they would do the movie justice and find a director that would focus around the topics it was really focused on in the book which was depression and suicide instead.

Blood on her name. This could have been a black mirror episode tbh. The dead body lies at her feet, its blood still draining onto the floor. It was an accident, borne of self defense, but its discovery could have devastating consequences for local garage owner Leigh Tiller (Bethany Anne Lind) and her son. But can she actually disappear a man from the earth— from his family— leaving them forever wondering? As Leigh is torn between her primal instincts and tortured conscience she struggles to keep her sins hidden from her estranged father– a cop with a long history of moral compromise (Will Patton)– and from the keen-eyed girlfriend of the deceased (Elisabeth Rohm). Movies BLOOD ON HER NAME Is a Masterclass in Neo-Noir (Beyond Fest Review) This past decade has seen a spate of grimy, gritty little neo-noir movies that hit hard and leave you reeling. Cold in July and Blue Ruin are two excellent examples that immediately come to mind. But like many films in the noir canon, they center on men. Matthew Pope’s brutal and thrilling addition to the slimy underbelly of the subgenre, Blood on Her Name, upsets that trend with a starring turn from Bethany Anne Lind as a mother who is forced into a desperate act after her son accidentally kills an intruder. Pope’s taught parable about the dangers of good intentions follows Leigh, a single mother who runs a garage alongside her sweetheart business partner Rey (Jimmy Gonzales). After what appears to be a break in, Leigh is thrown into a nightmarish spiral as she struggles to protect her son and herself. What really sets Blood on Her Name apart narratively though is that Leigh’s downfall is completely self made. Not only is the break in not what it first seems to be, but it’s her maternal instincts that drive her to return the dead body of the intruder to his family, setting a fatal chain of events in motion that it’s impossible to look away from. Rising Creek Even though Pope crafts an unrelentingly bleak atmosphere that leaves clammy fingerprints on your skin, Blood on Her Name is Lind’s film. She’s a bundle of frenetic energy, cold one minute and loving the next. She’s unpredictable and unreliable, but through Lind’s masterclass performance is ultimately a painfully relatable protagonist. Will Patton offers up an engaging foil as Leigh’s corrupt cop father who just happens to be investigating the very death that his daughter and grandson were responsible for. Fresh off a brilliant stint in Swamp Thing, Patton brings some real Southern Gothic to the character who is equally charming and chilling as he tries to help his daughter in the best way he can. At 85 minutes long, Blood on Her Name harks back to the classic era of Hollywood thrillers. It doesn’t waste a minute of its runtime and Lind commands your attention for every moment as she’s on screen pretty much the entire time. There’s something so moving and powerful about the authenticity and fear that emanates from this film; it’s like watching your worst case scenario play out in front of you. Pope does an excellent job of keeping the tension high right up until the end. Blood on Her Name is unlike any other film released this year. It’s vision of womanhood, motherhood, and the broad idea of a female led movie that upsets what viewers have come to expect. Easily one of the most interesting and best crafted films of the year, if there’s any justice, Blood On Her Name should be the low budget word of mouth hit of the year. Make sure you catch it, and if you really want to cleanse yourself of the demons of 2019, pair it with Parasite for a gorgeously grimy double bill about family, love, and class. 4. 5/5 Featured image: Rising Creek.

And the producers, actors and everyone else involved are probably wondering why no one wanted to watch the movie :D the people who did the trailer are reaaaaally smart 🤦‍♀️. So dont be ordinary, said the ordinary movie. Sounds like pantera.

The guy with the axe definitely pulls major tail

This is one of the greatest books of all time, Its one of those that had me crying my eyes out at the end. So what I don't understand is how its a romantic movie? Sure there was romance in the book but the point was depression and suicide and how not everyone can be saved in those dark times. I hope they do this good just as the book did, but with this, I don't think it is.

Blood on Her name. I read this book years ago and its amazing. From the trailer this movie looks like it does it justice. 💛💛. Disclaimer: I say no spoilers because I believe the story is well known and nothing should come as a shock.
Awesome dialogue throughout. A heart-wrenching story that packs some great comedic lines as well. I would probably give it a 9, but since I saw a couple of reviews give it a ONE (no way that is a fair review! I added a bonus point. The acting is top notch and the movie deserves several awards, however I cannot see today's Hollywood honoring a movie that dares to rip the mainstream media. All high school students should have to watch this movie to warn them that what you see on "the news" may not be true. And even when it is proven false, no problem, they simply move on to the next story that they hope will draw ratings. Like most True Story movies, there is some parts that may not be true. The reporter may not have slept with an agent to get her information. But that isn't very vital. It is what everyone did with that information. I understand the media can't be trusted, but the FBI? Very sad and scary. Mr. Eastwood is an American icon and thankfully someone who doesn't have to care what modern Tinseltown thinks of his product. He told a story that needed to be told because too many in power would want us to forget this egregious treatment of a Joe Lunchbucket Hero. WATCH THIS MOVIE WITH AN OPEN MIND. You will laugh. Saw the movie last night I loved It. Movie Watch Der Fall Richard jewellery.

Thank you Clint Eastwood for making a movie about this egregious accusation against an innocent man. Looks promising, hope its better than “The Mule”. Great looking movie, this movie will bring to light. law enforcement and media minds me of the Central park five... This is really eerie for me b/c I actually remember Tom Brokaw reporting that the FBI had enough to prosecute & convict him. So sad. Saw this movie... ordinary guy who did a great deed only to get effed over when he should have been commended. ☹🤬😡. Movie Watch Der Fall Richard jeweller.

150Min. release Date - 2019. I recently fell in love with the [Royal Ballet's] (). I think the Nutcracker Prince is SO CUTE! In this version. It made me want to look around and discover how well this production held up to others. As a child, I would watch [this version] () all the time. I've heard that this has the original staging of the ballet? Or at least, the one that made it so popular. I'm trying to stay away from the [San Francisco Ballet's production] () because I REALLY hope to see it one day. I live around the bay area. I just haven't talked anyone into going with me, yet. I've heard that [Baryshnikov's] () is very good. I'm very excited because I am going to see him dance at the Berkeley Rep on Valentine's Day. I keep hearing the [Bolshoi production] () is good, but I never hear more than that. Are there any that I am missing? Any links to videos? Advice? Opinions? I've recently began obsessing over ballet. I think The Nutcracker is a good place to start. I plan on moving on to Swan Lake and Giselle. Thank you! EDIT: I just found out about Ovations! Battle of the Nutcrackers. Information taken from [Wikipedia] () Ever since 2007, Ovation TV has held their annual "Battle of the Nutcrackers" viewing contest, giving their audience a choice of which Nutcracker to choose as the best. In 2007, the competitors were George Balanchine's The Nutcracker (the 1993 film version with the New York City Ballet and Macaulay Culkin), Bolshoi Ballet's The Nutcracker, Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker! and Mark Morris' The Hard Nut. The Hard Nut was the winner. In 2008, the competition included six competitors: Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker!, Bolshoi Ballet’s The Nutcracker, the 1993 film version of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, Nutcracker: The Motion Picture (with designs and costumes by Maurice Sendak), Bejart’s Nutcracker, and Mark Morris’ The Hard Nut. The Hard Nut won for a second year. In Ovation's 2009 Battle, the competitors were Mark Morris’ The Hard Nut, London Royal Ballet's The Nutcracker, Ballet of Monte Carlo's Casse Noisette Circus (Casse Noisette is French for Nutcracker), Bolshoi Ballet's The Nutcracker, and Maurice Bejart's Nutcracker. Once again, the winner was The Hard Nut. The 2010 "Battle of the Nutcrackers" began its run on December 6, 2010. It included two very traditional versions - the 1989 Bolshoi Ballet's Nutcracker and the 2009 Royal Ballet Nutcracker - as well as the Berlin State Opera Ballet's Nutcracker, Maurice Bejart Nutcracker, and Ballet of Monte Carlo's Casse Noisette Circus. The winner was the Royal Ballet version. The 2011 lineup included the following competitors: Mariinsky's The Nutcracker, London Royal Ballet's The Nutcracker, Berlin State Opera Ballet's Nutcracker, Bolshoi Ballet's The Nutcracker, and Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker!. An additional version, Nutcracker: The Story of Clara, another radical reworking of the ballet, was also telecast. As in 2010, the Royal Ballet version was the winner. For 2012, contestants included the following: London Royal Ballet's The Nutcracker, Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker!, Bolshoi Ballet's The Nutcracker, Nutcracker: The Story of Clara, two Mariinsky Nutcrackers (2008 and 2012 respectively), and San Francisco Ballet's The Nutcracker. The winner was the San Francisco version. For 2013, the contestants once again included Mariinsky's 2012 Nutcracker, Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker!, Nutcracker: The Story of Clara, and San Francisco Ballet's The Nutcracker. The winner, shown on December 23, was the San Francisco version. So far, the Baryshnikov Nutcracker, which is perhaps the bestselling version on DVD, has never been one of the contestants. DEFINITELY will be checking all of these out!

Audience Reviews Seating Chart The Fox Theatre Reviews Review: Atlanta Ballet’s new “Nutcracker” captivates with layered effects, simple story Cynthia Bond Perry, ArtsATL, 2018. 12. 11 On stage, the real and fantastical mingled with everyday things — an armchair and a glass-front cabinet, or a puppet theater and its marionettes that suddenly grew tenfold then collapsed into nothing just as quickly. In this storybook world, Marie’s living room turned surreal, throwing her environment off-kilter. The mysterious uncle or godfather Drosselmeier — whom Nikolas Gaifullin portrayed with a youngish, gentlemanly grace — took a central role. He orchestrated the transformation of everything around Marie, including a wooden-headed Nutcracker that turned into a handsome prince. In both of the pas de deux with Marie and the Prince, Possokhov’s choreography looped and dove around the space like a roving, dream-like imagination, liberated from the constraints of rational thought and physicalized. Within the nucleus of their duets, their movement stirred and whirled, then soared, dipped and opened outward toward the audience. Igarashi projected warmth and vivacity. “The Nutcracker” Embraces High Tech in Atlanta Laura Jacobs, Vanity Fair, 2018. 11. 26 Lest anyone think that a high-tech approach is inappropriate for this classic, be reminded that at its premiere in 1892, Tchaikovsky’s fantasy ballet left Russian critics perplexed. His colleague Mikhail Ivanov, however, saw that with this brilliant score, ballet as a medium had “started out along a completely different path from before. ” So “The Nutcracker” itself was progressive. That said, Possokhov is following the traditional American story line as laid out by the Christensen brothers in San Francisco (1944) and George Balanchine in New York (1954), though his iteration will be more mystical, celestial, and spooky. Atlanta Ballet enchants and stuns in new ‘Nutcracker’ Allison Gupton, Dance Informa, 2018. 09 A talented team of artists and designers assembled over the past two years to create an incredibly magical theatrical experience. The hard work, creativity and commitment to this world premiere was evident in the scale of all aspects of the design and in the small details seen throughout the show. High tech, holiday traditions meet in Atlanta Ballet’s new ‘Nutcracker’ Curt Holman, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 2018. 04 The production team includes Tony Award-winning video/projection designer Finn Ross, Tony-nominated set designer Tom Pye and lighting designer David Finn. The $3. 7 million production promises to enhance the dance with projected imagery and other state-of-the-art technological effects. “As technology moves on, artists develop new skills. Technology inspires creatives to explore new borders of their imagination onstage. Yuri is a master of this. The projections and visual enhancements will only help him bring the dancers up front, ” says Nedvigin. The Atlanta Ballet Presents “The Nutcracker” at Fox Theatre O'Brian Gunn, GA Voice, 2018. 20 When you hear mention of “The Nutcracker, ” your mind may instantly conjure up the new “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” movie. Rather than take a risk on what’s (so far) shaping up to be a rather lackluster movie, treat yourself and your family to a new, transcendent onstage performance of the classic production from the talented Atlanta Ballet at the historic Fox Theatre this December. The Nutcracker from Atlanta Ballet gets new-age makeover in its 24th year Natisha Lance, 11Alive, 2018. 21 It’s a challenge Atlanta Ballet dancer Emily Carrico, who plays Marie in the production, said the dancers are up for. “The scale of everything in this theater and the choreography is just out of this world, ” she said. “It's like nothing I’ve ever experienced before, and pretty much, I would say, it's safe to say any dancer in the company has danced before. ” Video Yuri Possokhov's "The Nutcracker" 2018 | Atlanta Ballet Atlanta Ballet's The Nutcracker: Past Present and Future The Nutcracker 2018 Tickets | Atlanta Ballet Behind the Scenes of "The Nutcracker" 2018 | Atlanta Ballet Yuri Possokhov's "The Nutcracker" at Fox Theatre 2018 | Atlanta Ballet Yuri Possokhov's "The Nutcracker" - Opening Night Gala 2018 | Atlanta Ballet The Nutcracker 2018 | Atlanta Ballet The Nutcracker 2018 - Teaser | Atlanta Ballet The Nutcracker at Fox Theatre - Drex Rener | Atlanta Ballet The Nutcracker at Fox Theatre - Kaedy Kiely | Atlanta Ballet The Nutcracker at Fox Theatre - Condace Pressley | Atlanta Ballet The Nutcracker at Fox Theatre - Checka Cee | Atlanta Ballet The Nutcracker at Fox Theatre - 11Alive News | Atlanta Ballet Choreographer Yuri Possokhov, Choreographer Yuri Possokhov danced for 10 years with the Bolshoi Ballet, performing leading roles in the company’s classical and contemporary repertoire. While performing, Possokhov studied choreography and ballet pedagogy at the State College of Theatrical Arts, completing the five-year course in 1990. He was a principal dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet for two years before joining the San Francisco Ballet (SFB) as a principal dancer in 1994. During his 12 years dancing with SFB, he began choreographing. Upon his retirement from dancing in 2006, he joined the artistic staff at San Francisco Ballet as choreographer in residence. He has created 14 ballets for SFB and continues to choreograph new works for the company each season. Possokhov choreographs ballets for companies worldwide. In 2015, his full-length for the Bolshoi Ballet, A Hero of Our Time, was met with critical acclaim, and the company invited him to stage a full-length ballet based on the life of Rudolf Nureyev that premiered in December 2017. For these two ballets, Possokhov received the prestigious Benois de la Danse Award, established by the International Dance Union. Yuri Possokhov is a frequent guest choreographer with Atlanta Ballet. Violin Album of Tchaikovsky (Sheet music on violin app) Hello, violinists. In today’s article, we will discuss the repertoire from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, who was the first Russian composer whose music made a lasting impression internationally. Play 0:00 0:00 Settings Fullscreen Album (Violin) Composer: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer of the romantic period, whose works are among the most popular music in the classical repertoire. He was also a guest conductor in Europe and the United States. Although musically precocious, Tchaikovsky was educated for a career as a civil servant. There were scant opportunities for a musical career in Russia at that time and there was no system of public music education then. When an opportunity for such an education arose, he entered the nascent Saint Petersburg Conservatory, from which he graduated in 1865. The formal Western-oriented teaching he received there set him apart from composers of the contemporary nationalist movement, which was embodied by the Russian composers of The Five, with whom his professional relationship was mixed. While his music has remained popular among audiences, critical opinions were initially mixed. Some Russians did not feel it was sufficiently representative of native musical values, and expressed suspicion that Europeans accepted the music for its Western elements. In an apparent reinforcement of the latter claim, some Europeans lauded Tchaikovsky for offering music more substantive than base exoticism, and said he transcended stereotypes of Russian classical music. Others dismissed Tchaikovsky’s music as “lacking in elevated thought”, according to longtime New York Times music critic Harold C. Schonberg, and derided its formal workings as deficient because they did not stringently follow Western principles. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Violin Composition Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote several works well known among the general classical public — Romeo and Juliet, the 1812 Overture, and his three ballets: The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and The Sleeping Beauty. These 5, along with two of his four concertos, three of his six symphonies (seven if his program symphony Manfred is included), and two of his 10 operas, are probably among his most familiar works. The Manfred Symphony, Francesca da Rimini, the Capriccio Italien and the Serenade for Strings are almost as popular as the works mentioned above. The Violin Concerto in D major, one of Tchaikovsky’s freshest-sounding and least pretentious works, is filled with melodies that could have easily come from one of his ballets. It is also one of the best-known violin concertos. The composer also had some chamber music works, including string quartets and one string sextet. Album Contents: There are totally 6 pieces of music in the self-titled Album of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky on Violy, including: 1. Andante Cantabile | Andante cantabile = 76 · This work is from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s String Quartet №1 in D major Op. 11. It was the first of his three completed string quartets that were published during his lifetime. An earlier attempt had been abandoned after the first movement was completed. Composed in February 1871, it was premiered in Moscow on 16/28 March 1871 by four members of the Russian Musical Society: Ferdinand Laub and Ludvig Minkus, violins; Pryanishnikov, viola; and Wilhelm Fitzenhagen, cello. Tchaikovsky arranged the second movement for cello and string orchestra in 1888. The quartet has four movements: Moderato e semplice (D major), Andante cantabile (B♭ major), Scherzo: Allegro non tanto e con fuoco — Trio (D minor), and Finale: Allegro giusto — Allegro vivace (D major). 2. Chanson Triste | Allegro non troppo = 120 3. Dance of Little Four Swan | BPM = 100 4. June: Barcarolle | Andante cantabile = 80 5. Melodie in E Flat Major, Op. 42 №3 | Moderato con moto = 84 · This work is from Souvenir d’un lieu cher (Memory of a dear place) Op. 42 for violin and piano. It was written by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky between March and May 1878. It consists of three movements: Méditation (D minor), Scherzo (C minor) and Mélodie (E-flat major; Tchaikovsky also described it as a “chant sans paroles”). 6. Theme for Swan Lake | BPM = 82 · Swan Lake Op. 20, is a ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875–76. Despite its initial failure, it is now one of the most popular of all ballets. The scenario, initially in two acts, was fashioned from Russian and German folk tales and tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse. The ballet was premiered by the Bolshoi Ballet on 4 March 1877 at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Although it is presented in many different versions, most ballet companies base their stagings both choreographically and musically on the 1895 revival of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, first staged for the Imperial Ballet on 15 January 1895, at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. For this revival, Tchaikovsky’s score was revised by the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatre’s chief conductor and composer Riccardo Drigo. Swan Lake is scored for the typical late 19th-century large orchestra: Strings: violins I and II; violas, violoncellos; double basses, harp Woodwinds: piccolo; 2 flutes; 2 oboes; 2 clarinets in B♭, A and C; 2 bassoons Brass: 4 French horns in F; 2 cornets in A and B♭; 2 trumpets in F, D, and E; 3 trombones (2 tenor, 1 bass); tuba Percussion: timpani; snare drum; cymbals; bass drum; triangle; tambourine; castanets; tam-tam; glockenspiel; chimes Ref: 1. 3. APA Photography citation for APA format APA (American Psychological Association) style is frequently used to cite sources like videos, movies, articles from periodicals within the social sciences. Drawings and photographs can be used to communicate very specific information about a subject. Thanks to software, both are now highly manipulable. For the sake of readability and simplicity, line drawings should be used, and photographs should have the highest possible contrast between the background and focal point. Cropping, cutting out extraneous detail, can be very beneficial for a photograph. Use software like GraphicConverter or Photoshop to convert color photographs to black and white before printing on a laser printer. Otherwise most printers will produce an image with poor contrast. Though you may have permission to use a photo, you must still credit the photography creator or copyright owner, to facilitate this process use free citation machine. In statements of usage rights on websites, this practice is often called “attribution. ” In some cases, you will be instructed to attribute the image to an institution that owns the copyright. Look for a link on a website or database called “Terms of Use” or something similar. Conform as closely as possible to the structure and examples below with the information you have available. Consult APA style guide for more detailed explanations and for exceptions (such as images without a listed date or creator). To create reference on APA photo online within APA citation generator, follow the template: Author’s name; Year; Title of the work; Source on retrieved item (URL); Date. Many images found online have few details, but always check extra information by: clicking on the image or hovering your mouse over it, looking at the bottom of the image, looking at the URL.

The ability to make money as a photographer, like  a YouTuber or Instagrammer, is all about harnessing that same creativity at the heart of your work and applying it to the monetization of your talents. It can seem hard to make it when anyone with the newest iPhone can call themselves a “photographer, ” and everyone is using some sort of free photo editing software. But success, for most creators who turn to entrepreneurship, comes down to three things: Finding your niche. Building an audience. Creating several streams of income. This guide will explore some of the things you should know about selling photos online with resources and business ideas to help you make your photography-based business a reality. Best places to sell photos online To start, here are 20 stock photography websites to sell images and license your photos online: Getty Images Shutterstock iStock 500px Stocksy Can Stock Photo Adobe Stock Fotolia PhotoDune Alamy Twenty20 Depositphotos Dreamstime GL Stock Images EyeEm Image Vortex Crestock 123RF Foap Licensing is one of the most popular ways to “sell” your photos online to brands, publishers and anyone who might have an interest in using your photos for their own purposes. And that’s the key here. You need to work backwards and think about how your photos can be used by a brand or a publisher—versatile photos that express ideas tend to be popular, especially when they feature human subjects. There are a lot of stock photo sites to choose from, including: 1. Getty Images On the higher end of stock photography sites, Getty Images attracts brands and publishers looking for high-quality or hard-to-find exclusive images to license. The standards for becoming a contributor are predictably higher than many other stock photo sites. For photos licensed via, rates start at 20%. 2. Shutterstock Shutterstock is a micro-stock site where photos are cheaper and non-exclusive, and the way to increase downloads is by contributing a large quantity of images that can be used as visual metaphors. Don’t expect to earn as much here, but it’s a good place if you’re just starting out. Payouts are based on your earnings over time and range from 20% to 30%. There’s also an affiliate program where you can earn additional money if you refer new photographers or customers. 3. iStock iStock is the micro-stock offshoot owned by Getty Images. Commission ranges from 25% to 45% depending on whether the photos are exclusive or non-exclusive. 4. 500px 500px isn’t just a stock photo site; it’s a community-based platform for photographers. You can follow other photographers, list your photos in their marketplace, and participate in Photo Quest competitions for prizes. The community is full of stunning, creative shots with a 30% commission payout for non-exclusive photos and 60% for exclusive ones. 5. Stocksy Stocksy is a popular mid-range stock photography site, especially among publishers. The standards to be accepted are higher, and Stocksy requires exclusive images, but it also pays out a generous 50–75% commission. 6. Can Stock Photo More than 70, 000 photographers sell photos on Can Stock Photo. There are various payout structures ranging from percentages to fixed amounts, and they’ll also give you $5 for every 50 photos your referral sells. When you sell photos on Can Stock Photo, they also list your photos for sale on Fotosearch, a stock photography agency. 7. offers free photo downloads as well as images for users to purchase. When the small version of your photo is downloaded for free, attribution is required. While you won’t earn a cent, you will get credit. When their target market (professionals who need images for business use) purchase images, photographers earn 70% commission. 8.  Adobe Stock Adobe Stock is one of the best places to sell photos online because when you list photos for sale here, they’re also available on stock site Fotolia. You’ll earn 33% commission on the photos you sell through Adobe Stock. 9. Fotolia Fotolia, which has been purchased by Adobe Stock, has two pricing models for users: Pay-As-You-Go and Subscription. Photos sold to Pay-As-You-Go customers earn 20–63% commission, while Subscription generates 33% commission but has a minimum guarantee. 10. PhotoDune PhotoDune, part of Envato Market, is another best place to sell photos online. Payout structures vary. PhotoDune also has a referral program: Receive a 30% commission from your referral’s first cash deposit. 11. Alamy Alamy pays contributors monthly and has a varied payment structure. Sales through earn photographers 50%, Distributors earn 70%, Novel Use earns 50%. Payments are deposited monthly, as long as your Cleared Funds are $50 or more. 12. Twenty20 Twenty20 started as a tool for Instagram photographers to sell their images to brands. Now, it’s a robust stock photography site where you can sell photos online and connect with potential clients. You can earn money three ways: selling a photo, for you earn $2 per photo licensed, 100% cash prizes from photo challenges, and 100% commission from whatever brands hire you for scheduled shoots. 13. Depositphotos Depositphotos has its commissions based on the contributor’s experience and status on the platform, as well as the resolution and license type. Commissions range are 34–42%. 14. Dreamstime Dreamstime is a stock photo site with a generous payout for contributors. However, they require more commitment: You must have at least 70% of your portfolio on their site for at least six months. But, non-exclusive contributors earn 25–50%, and exclusive photos generate a 27. 5–55% commission. There are also lots of ways to earn money for referrals, both on the contributor and the purchaser side. 15. GL Stock Images On GL Stock Images, you have the choice of setting your own prices. And you’ll earn 40% commission on all sales. 16. EyeEm EyeEm focuses more on advertising stock photography, making it one of the best places to sell photos online if you’re looking to be in the commercial photography space. They advertise a 50% commission on their site. 17. Image Vortex Image Vortex doesn’t require exclusivity, so you can sell your photos on other sites as well. Commission rates are 70%, and you establish your own prices. 18. Crestock Crestock pays contributors 20–40% commission rates based on the total number of downloads. They also have several affiliate programs through which you can earn money. 19. 123RF This is another stock photo platform that pays contributors based on the number of downloads and purchases. Commissions range from 30% to 60%. 20. Foap Foap offers contributors five ways to earn money from selling photos online: $5 for every photo sold, $100–$2, 500 for Missions, $0. 25/photo for album-specific photo sales, submitting photos to Getty Mission (payouts vary), and selling photos online via partner platforms, such as Adobe and Alamy. How to sell photos online: two essential steps 1. Define your niche Every successful photographer has a consistent style or theme that runs through their work. Whether your thing is travel, fashion, cityscapes, nature, food, etc., consistency is key. People follow other people online to see more of whatever it is that interested them in the first place. People unfollow other people when those expectations aren’t met. Finding your niche if you want to sell pictures online is typically something you feel your way into as you see which styles and photos resonate with your audience. But you can also evaluate the demand for certain topics using keyword research to analyze the search volume for terms related to your photographs. Keywords Everywhere is a browser extension that shows you the search volume right below your Google search, making it easy to find and experiment with in-demand subjects and angles to see what you can cater to with your photographs. As a suggestion, anything above 1, 000 average monthly searches is significant volume to consider capitalizing on. Photographers, just like bloggers, YouTubers, and artists of any kind, should also invest in building their audiences because that’s ultimately what helps them build their business and sell photography online. Whether you’re freelancing or selling photography online as prints, you’ll need to build and leverage your network to expand your reach and credibility. Visual social platforms like Instagram and Tumblr with built-in audiences can help you reach a wide audience, but there are also photo-sharing sites that can connect you with other photographers where you can build a following and, depending on the platform, sell licenses to use your photos (more on that later). Linking your various accounts makes it easier to manage your photo-sharing across several platforms, which is good for visibility of your photographs, especially important when you’re trying to figure out how to sell your photography. On Instagram, for example, you can go to Options > Settings > Linked Accounts to connect Tumblr, Facebook, and more to publish in more than one place with a single post. IFTTT is a free tool that can help you create other useful integrations between apps that don’t usually integrate, like Instagram and Dropbox. On Instagram, you can also use Hashtagify to discover relevant, active hashtags to increase the visibility of your photographs on the platform to get more likes, comments, and engagement. 2. Integrate ecommerce into your portfolio Most photographers have a main portfolio site to showcase their work and let clients hire them. But by adding ecommerce to it, including the ability to accept payments, you can open several more doors to monetization, like selling courses, physical products, and services. Dave Sanford (below), for example, has a store that showcases his wildlife photography, while letting people purchase prints and calendars. Source:  Sanford You can build your portfolio or store on Shopify, install the relevant apps to customize it to your needs and monetization strategies, and start sharing and selling your photography in different forms: online or even offline through Shopify POS. Check out some of the Art and Photography themes, or choose a free theme to start (you can always switch later). You might also want to consider installing Shopify apps to add more functionality like Digital Downloads (free), an Instagram gallery, and more. There are a lot of reasons your own ecommerce site can be the best place to sell photos online, many of which we’ll explore below. How to sell photography prints, products, and photo books It’s not just brands and publishers who might want your work. Your fans might too. And there are plenty of ways that they can potentially own it, whether it’s as a simple framed print or a pillow. Luckily, selling your own physical products is a lot simpler than you think. How to sell photography prints and products Shopify Academy Course: Build a Print-on-Demand Empire Print your photos for the wall or onto a t-shirt with a print-on-demand business. Expert Shopify merchant Adrian Morrison shares his framework for starting and launching a successful print-on-demand shop. Enroll for free There are many sites and tools where you can upload your photographs and sell your pictures as photo prints on paper or physical products, such as mugs, T-shirts, and calendars. Fotomoto CafePress Instaproofs (pulls in photos from your Instagram feed) You can work with a local photo lab that ships prints or use a print on demand service like Printful to dropship a wide range of products (prints, phone cases, pillows, and more) featuring your photos. Be sure to order samples first to ensure that the quality of the products match the quality of your photos. There are many other sites and tools you can use to print photos and products to sell. How to sell pictures as photo books You can also learn how to sell pictures by creating photo books with your photographs and selling those online. Photo books are another physical photography-based product that can complement any coffee table. The more niche and consistent your photography is, the more likely you’ll be able to put together a stellar photo book based around a compelling theme. You can use a service like Blurb, Lulu Xpress,  York Photo, or Shutterfly to create, print, and ship them on demand. While you won’t get the best margins with print-on-demand services, it’s a great risk-free way to test demand for your products before you decide to invest upfront. How to sell your photography as a service Whether you’re covering events, doing fashion shoots, or taking product photos, there’s ample opportunity to take advantage of the demand for professional photography. Here’s how to sell your photography as a service: While you can list your services in freelance directories like Fiverr  and  Upwork, or apply to be a Shopify Expert, selling your photography as a service for decent pay usually involves networking locally since you need to be able to travel to meet clients in-person. Here are some tips to build your network: Always have business cards handy — you never know when you might meet a potential client (use our free business card generator to create your own). Tidy up your LinkedIn profile, showcase your work, and optimize it for the main photography service you provide (“Event Photographer”, for example). Attend networking events where entrepreneurs and event organizers go — these folks will inevitably have the need for a professional photographer in the future. Build a personal brand as a photographer so you’re top-of-mind when anyone in your network needs your camera and skills. Since photographers, unlike other freelancers, must operate in strict time slots, it’s good to have a booking platform you can use to let prospective clients see your schedule and book you when you're available. Both Set More and Simply Book have free plans and features that work well for photographers. Or, if you’re using Shopify, you can install BookThatApp to schedule appointments directly from your site. Now, let’s talk about usage rights and protecting your work. A photographer’s legal primer to selling photos online Figuring out how to sell your photography online can be overwhelming enough. And while rights and licenses related to selling photography may seem a foreign language, there are some terms and concepts you should know to help protect yourself from theft and infringing upon others’ rights when selling photos. This is by no means a comprehensive list, or a substitute for actual legal advice (I’m not a lawyer), but it should offer you broad definitions that will help you navigate the world of usage rights. Glossary of legal terms for selling photos online Editorial use: Permission to use in blogs, newspapers, magazines and other publications. Commercial use: Permission to use in marketing and advertising to promote a product or service. Retail use: Permission to use in the creation of a physical product to be sold. This includes prints, posters, and products that feature the photo (pillows, mugs, etc. ). Sometimes talked about in the same context as commercial use, but it should be considered separately. Exclusive: Exclusive use means that the one who purchases the license from you is the only one who can use the photo. Non-exclusive: Non-exclusive photo licenses can be purchased and used by anyone and usually cost less than exclusive ones. Public domain: Holds no restrictions or copyright claim and can be used for commercial, editorial, and personal purposes. Works created by U. S federal government agencies (such as NASA) generally fall into this category unless otherwise stated. Creative Commons: Conditional usage of your work is allowed as long as it’s in compliance with the stated restrictions. Attribution to credit the creator is sometimes required. Visit Creative Commons to generate a badge for this license for free. Royalty-free: Others can buy a license and use the photo for an unlimited duration and unlimited number of times. This is the most common type of license purchased and on the cheaper end of the spectrum since these photos are usually non-exclusive. Rights-managed: A one-time license can be purchased to use the photo with restrictions regarding distribution. Additional licenses must be purchases for additional use. Right of publicity: The subjects in your photos are entitled to certain rights when it comes to their inclusion in your photography, especially when it comes to commercial use when you sell photos online. This is a separate concern from the copyright considerations above and you should seek a subject's explicit permission first in order to be safe. For more in-depth information about copyright laws and licensing in the U. S., check out Photo Secrets to understand the copyright laws that protect your work, or look at any major stock photo site to see how they define different types of licenses. What to do if someone steals your photos Theft is common when it comes to content, and many people do it unknowingly. It’s common practice for photographers to watermark their images before selling them online to offer them at least some layer of protection against theft. If you’re going to sell or share your own photos, you can apply your own identifying mark in Photoshop or use a Watermark Generator. A smaller watermark, often in the corner, still lets others enjoy your photo, while a larger tiled watermark with reduced opacity offers the most protection against theft. But what do you do if someone decides to steal and use your photos anyway? A cease and desist request will usually work. Or you can send the culprit an invoice for using your photo. A combination of the two will likely be the most effective at persuading the perpetrator by offering them the choice to either pay you or take the photo down. At the very least, you should always try to get others to credit you whenever they borrow your work, even if it’s just for editorial purposes. Remember that links back to your portfolio site are not only good for driving traffic back to your other work, but also good for search engine optimization and helping your standing in Google search results. Turning your passion into profit Whether photography is your hobby, your side gig, or full-time hustle, there are more avenues than ever before when it comes to how you sell photos online. Your talent and your determination ultimately decide your earning potential, but the income you get from doing what you love and what you’re good at is some of the best cash you’ll ever earn. According to the 2006 census ( INE), the municipality had a population of 5327 inhabitants. Toponymy [ edit] In 1557 king Philip II granted it the charter of town (in Spanish villa). At the beginning of being populated, it was allowed to be free of taxes (frank) for six years. The wording "de los Caballeros" would be added to the name of "Villafranca" because of some customary events from the time of Middle Ages. "It happened every year, the day of St. Martin, that the representatives of all villages and towns belonging to the Order of the Knights of St. John gathered at the place, to deal with the use of community pastures. In the gathering, representatives would answer when asked:... may speak now the gentleman from ... ". And for holding, even if it was only for a day, attending people who was considered to be gentlemen (caballeros in Spanish), the town received that surname. So the place became known as "Villafranca de los Caballeros". There is a handful of other towns that are also called Villafranca (frank town), but hey, there's only one Villafranca de los Caballeros in all Spain. This information has been extracted from the old file Descriptions of Cardinal Lorenzana, 1784. I'm not sure of how to write the reference. History [ edit] According to the few excavations carried out, the first settlers in Villafranca were the Iberians. If you can read Spanish, that's what most of people say about the town. Actually the studies carried out have been very limited and there are certain traces of settlers from Stone Age. So, that the only studied archaeological sites may have been so far of Iberians from the 7th and 6th centuries B. C. doesn't mean they were the very first to settle in the area. Also, the sites are much far from the current town's historical center. Speaking about this zone, the first mention of this place dates back to Muslim invasion, where Muslims and Christians did coexist in the area called today Cruz de Lozano. Then, by 1085, Toledo was conquered by the Christian king Alfonso VI. At the same time, Consuegra was also recovered by the Christians, and Villafranca gets to depend of it. Consuegra is handed over to the Order of the Knights of St. John. Villafranca as well as other towns becomes a property of the order. Since then, the town would depend in one way or another from the Order until the ecclesiastical confiscations of the 19th century in Spain, when the Order properties in Spain were seized and the Grand Priory was ended. Heritage [ edit] Parish Church of Our Lady of the Assumption [ edit] This is the most important monument in the town. Its construction began back in the 13th century as a Romanesque church, but was later modified and enlarged in the 16th and 18th centuries with the addition of some gothic elements, like a central rib vault. Chapel of the Saint Christ of St. Anna [ edit] Current building is the result of the enlargement, at the beginning of the 18th century (or perhaps at the end of the 17th), of an old chapel, which was devoted to St. Anna, the mother of the Virgin Mary. The original carving of the Christ was found in the basement of that primitive chapel (perhaps buried there during the Muslim invasions to protect it). By then it was known as St. Christ of the True Cross. But because it was found in the chapel of St. Anna, people started to call it by that name as well. Today, the ancient name can only be found in old writings, and everybody in the town call it St. Christ of St. Anna. Little is known exactly about the date the original chapel was built. We have some references it already existed in 1691. Studies are being made by historians in old archives to find out the truth, but so far all we know is from its legend more than history. Today's building was designed like a salon in the baroque style. The interior was covered with paintings, but in 1993 the paintings from the walls were removed because a severe problem of humidity. Paintings still can be seen in the vaults of the ceilings. References [ edit].

The gentlemen drivers. The gentlemen of wolgyesu tailor shop ep 47. The gentlemen cast interview.

The gentlemen soundtrack rap song. The gentlemen's barber shop. The gentlemen cast.

The gentlemen movie songs. Had a bit of trouble following it at first as I was distracted but the wits trying to open the chip packs for at least 10 this happened further into the movie I would have gotten into character and become an enforcer and banged a couple of heads together, as it was I controlled myself for once and kept my mouth closed.(Which is hard sometimes)
Don't see this movie if you don't like to hear the" See U Next Tuesday"as there were a few.
Hugh Grant as the narrator, Had to look twice as he'd nailed the cockney accent down pat, almost thought that it had been dubbed McConaughey played the Drug lord with a conscience who ONLY sells the wacky tabbacky, no Heroin for this chick from Downton Abbey Michelle Dockery was Mathews wife who also took the plum out of her mouth and ignored her elocution lessons for the assault scene on her in her poms and their sick sense of humour shows brilliantly through the dead pan look on her face.
Did I mention the CeeUNextTuesday's that are sprinkled throughout the movie. Again just a heads up.
Mister nice guy Henry Golding from Crazy rich Asians, was just creepy cause you know he is such a heart throb but then he opens his mouth with obscenities, and he becomes an all round unlikable dude.
Charlie Hunnam as Mathews security detail is understated but a standout at the same time the scene where he is in the druggies den takes loyalty to new heights.
But to me the standout was Colin Farrell as the coach of the toddlers(picture Eggsie from The Kingsmen )He had some of the best lines especially in the Gym with the black dude, and the pig scene said in his beautiful Irish accent.
Oh did I mention the plethora of Cee U Next Tuesday references.
Actually there were so many of them I nearly had to look up the cast list just to double check there wasn't a character named U. N. T.
(Hate that word by the way)
Full of great dialogue classic back to basics Guy Ritchie.
Look for the reference to one of Guy Richie's other movies in the last scene with the Harvey Weinstein look a member pay attention at the start cause it starts with flash backs but you dont realise it till Hugh starts to tell the story and what a story teller he is performance since Love Actually(My opinion anyway,No English fop to be seen in this movie.
Worth seeing this a second time as I know I missed things.
4.9 out of 5 best movie of the year hahaha.

Cast Crew Details Genres Director Producers Writer Editor Cinematography Production Design Composer News Our picks of the top 10 narrative features with world premieres at SXSW 2019. Read post Popular reviews More High key one of the best directorial debuts of recent memory. So open and honest and lo-fi in it's approach that I was totally blindsided when it made me tear up in the home stretch. Full disclosure, I had to opportunity to sit down with the director, Alex Thompson and the writer/star, Kelly O'Sullivan for a really fantastic interview. This is just one of the most delightfully big-hearted films that tackles a lot of topics in a very personal, head-on and matter of fact manner that makes you believe that maybe, just maybe, everything will turn out okay for us in the end. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll feel a big boost of empathy and understanding for everyone around you. Such a thoroughly delightful surprise of a movie. Amazing, complicated characters from our protagonist to the more peripheral figures she encounters on her journey. Saint Frances is largely a comedy, but the dramatic beats are so well handled and nearly brought me to tears twice because of how quickly invested I became in this story.  Without ever becoming heavy handed, there’s something quietly radical about how the film talks about women’s bodies. There is so much menstrual blood shown and talked about in this movie, and it’s directly relevant to the plot. It’s not to shock the audience, but rather to remind us all that there shouldn’t be any shame tied to a completely natural part of many people’s lives. … Highly doubt there will be a better, more honest screenplay this year. A brilliant, brave, and incredibly moving (but never melodramatic) story of finding faith in other people and yourself. reminds me of why i love movies in the first place made me want kids. i wasn't ready for that shit. Such an important film - want to share it with every woman I know. Recent reviews If I'd been able to rent this film and OBVIOUS CHILD around the time of my abortion, I think the experience would have felt less like a Choose Your Own Adventure: The Real Life American Horror Story Edition and more like a 'yes, this is happening, but you're a relatively privileged Western feminist atheist that can navigate this with your progressive peers' experience - Kelly's honest confrontation with her *feminist atheism* reserved a permanent seat for this film in my Top 10 films of 2020 list, and it's not even February 's going to be another great year, I can feel it... Bridget reminded me of myself in 10 years. This film gave me all the feels. I loved that the film shows the simple process of the abortion pill and shows how it is a difficult decision but sometimes necessary. Frances is adorable and a strong character. I loved her moms. I loved how relatable the story was. Not a stretch to call this miraculous. It reminded me of everything from UNHOOK THE STARS to... well, there just isn't much out there to compare it with. In the best possible way. what a pallet cleanser after seeing The Irishman lol (saw this as part of my local theatre’s independent film festival series).. of the best movies of the year! i laughed... i cried omg it was so good. kelly o’sullivan kinda the new brie brie is probably never gonna be in another indie movie (watch short term 12! ) Yeah - - - but no. It's not rare that I'm uncomfortable in the way some movies ask me to follow their way of thinking. That we're far from being on the same page. As in, "please believe me and take me seriously when I tell you... " But it is rare that I get this feeling in a movie that I would like to like. Surely, Saint Frances embraces post-abortion effects in a way that no other movie has ever done before. It also shows that parenthood is an extremely hard, outoging process while highlighting the mental struggles of both embracing your place in the world while showing the world to a little fellow-human. And undeniably, it does it all… A warm comedy full of charm, humor, and fun. But more centrally, Saint Frances is an ode to the female experience in 2019. While the film wholly succeeds as a female-empowering hug, it is too artificially compiled as a checklist of statements that need to be said that it never really comes together as a believable film. Almost every event or conflict in the film feels deliberate or staged rather than organic, culminating in a rigidly pc idealist crowd-pleaser full of “wouldn’t that be nice” moments. Regardless,  Saint Frances approaches some heavy issues with taste and humor, and it’s an overall good time. So it still comes confidently recommended. 2019 Ranked DFF42 Popular Lists More.

Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini M. S. C. Religious and foundress Born July 15, 1850 Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, Province of Lodi, Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia, Austrian Empire Died December 22, 1917 (aged 67) Chicago, Illinois, US Venerated in Roman Catholic Church Beatified November 13, 1938, by Pope Pius XI Canonized July 7, 1946, by Pope Pius XII Major shrine National Shrine of Saint Francis Xavier Cabrini, Chicago, IL; Mother Cabrini Shrine, Golden, CO; St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Shrine, New York, NY Feast November 13 (US, 1961 to date), December 22 (elsewhere) Patronage Immigrants, hospital administrators Frances Xavier Cabrini MSC ( Italian: Francesca Saverio Cabrini; July 15, 1850 – December 22, 1917), also called Mother Cabrini, was an Italian-American Roman Catholic nun. She founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a Catholic religious institute that was a major support to her fellow Italian immigrants to the United States. She was the first U. citizen to be canonized as a Saint by the Roman Catholic Church, on July 7, 1946. ( Elizabeth Ann Seton later became the first native-born U. citizen to be canonized. ) Early life [ edit] Frances was born July 15, 1850, in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, in the Lombard Province of Lodi, then part of the Austrian Empire, the youngest of the thirteen children of Agostino Cabrini and Stella Oldini, [1] who were farmers. Only four of the thirteen survived beyond adolescence. Born two months early, she was small and weak as a child, and remained in delicate health throughout her life. During her childhood, she visited an uncle, Don Luigi Oldini of Livagra, a priest who lived beside a swift canal. While there, she made little boats of paper, dropped violets in them, called the flowers missionaries, and launched them to sail off to India and China. At thirteen, Francesca attended a school run by the Daughters of the Sacred Heart. Five years later she graduated cum laude, with a teaching certificate. [2] After the deaths of her parents in 1870, she applied for admission to the religious congregation of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart at Arluno. These sisters were her former teachers, but, reluctantly, they told her she was too frail for their life. [3] She became the headmistress of the House of Providence orphanage in Codogno, where she taught, and drew a small community of women to live a religious way of life. Cabrini took religious vows in 1877 and added Xavier to her name to honor the Jesuit saint, Francis Xavier, the patron saint of missionary service. [4] Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus [ edit] In November 1880, she and six other women who had taken religious vows with her founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (M. ). [5] Cabrini composed the Rule and Constitutions of the religious institute, and she continued as its superior general until her death. The sisters took in orphans and foundlings, opened a day school to help pay expenses, started classes in needlework and sold their fine embroidery to earn a little more money. [2] The institute established seven homes and a free school and nursery in its first five years. Its good works brought Cabrini to the attention of (the now Blessed) Giovanni Scalabrini, Bishop of Piacenza, and of Pope Leo XIII. Mission to United States [ edit] Stained glass window in Chesapeake, Virginia, depicting Mother Cabrini In September 1877, Cabrini went to seek approval of the pope to establish missions in China. Instead, he suggested that she go to the United States to help the Italian immigrants who were flooding to that nation, mostly in great poverty. "Not to the East, but to the West" was his advice. [5] Cabrini left for the United States, arriving in New York City on March 31, 1889, along with six other sisters. [6] In New York she encountered disappointment and difficulties. [5] Archbishop Michael Corrigan, who was not immediately supportive, found them housing at the convent of the Sisters of Charity. She obtained the archbishop's permission to found an orphanage, which is located in West Park, New York and known today as Saint Cabrini Home. Cabrini organized catechism and education classes for the Italian immigrants and provided for the needs of the many orphans. She established schools and orphanages despite tremendous odds. She was as resourceful as she was prayerful, finding people who would donate what she needed in money, time, labor, and support. [7] In New York City, she founded Columbus Hospital, which merged with Italian Hospital to become Cabrini Medical Center from 1973 [8] until its closure in 2008. [9] In Chicago, the sisters opened Columbus Extension Hospital (later renamed Saint Cabrini Hospital) in the heart of the city's Italian neighborhood on the Near West Side. Both hospitals eventually closed near the end of the 20th century. Their foundress' name lives on in Chicago's Cabrini Street. She founded 67 institutions: in New York; Chicago and Des Plaines, Illinois; Seattle; New Orleans; Denver and Golden, Colorado; Los Angeles; Philadelphia; and in countries throughout Latin America and Europe. [4] Long after her death, the Missionary Sisters would achieve Cabrini's goal of being missionaries to China. In only a short time, after much social and religious upheaval there, the Sisters left China and, subsequently, a Siberian placement. [ citation needed] Cabrini was naturalized as a United States citizen in 1909. [4] Death [ edit] Cabrini died of complications from malaria at age 67 in Columbus Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, on December 22, 1917, [1] while preparing Christmas candy for the local children. By that time, she had founded 67 missionary institutions to serve the sick and poor and to train additional sisters to carry on the work. Her body was originally interred at what is now Saint Cabrini Home, an orphanage she founded in West Park, Ulster County, New York. Veneration [ edit] In 1931, her body was exhumed as part of the canonization process. At that time, her head was removed and is preserved in the chapel of the congregation's international motherhouse in Rome. An arm is at the national shrine in Chicago, while most of the rest of her body is at the shrine in New York. Cabrini was beatified on November 13, 1938, by Pope Pius XI, and canonized on July 7, 1946, [7] by Pope Pius XII. Her beatification miracle involved restoring the sight of a one-day-old baby who had been blinded by a 50% silver nitrate solution instead of the normal 1% solution in the child's eyes. The child, named Peter Smith (1921–2002), would later be present at her beatification and become a priest. [10] Her canonization miracle involved the healing of a terminally ill member of her congregation. When she was canonized, an estimated 120, 000 people filled Chicago's Soldier Field for a Mass of thanksgiving. [11] In the Roman Martyrology, her feast day is December 22, the anniversary of her death, the day ordinarily chosen as a saint's feast day. [12] Following the reforms in Pope John XXIII 's Code of Rubrics, the United States since 1961 has celebrated Cabrini's feast on November 13, the day of her beatification, to avoid conflicting with the greater ferias of Advent. St. Frances Xavier Cabrini is the patron saint of immigrants, [13] and of the religious institute, the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará (Servidoras). [14] Mother Cabrini is also informally recognized an effective intercessor for finding a parking space. [15] Shrines [ edit] Chicago, Illinois (National Shrine) [ edit] National Shrine in Chicago After Cabrini's death, her room at Columbus Hospital, in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, became a popular destination for the faithful seeking personal healing and spiritual comfort. Due to the overwhelming number of pilgrims after her canonization in 1946, the then- Archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal Samuel Stritch, commissioned a National Shrine built in her honor within the hospital complex. He dedicated the shrine in 1955. [16] The hospital closed in 2002, to be replaced by a high-rise development on North Lakeview, but the shrine and Cabrini's room were preserved during the long period of demolition and construction. They were solemnly blessed and re-dedicated by Cardinal Francis George on September 30, 2012, and reopened to the public the next day. The shrine is an architectural gem of gold mosaics, Carrara marble, frescoes and Florentine stained glass, functioning as a stand-alone center for prayer, worship, spiritual care and pilgrimage. [16] Golden, Colorado [ edit] Stone House in Golden, Colorado In 1904, Cabrini established Denver's Queen of Heaven Orphanage for girls, including many orphans of local Italian miners. In 1910, she purchased rural property from the town of Golden, on the east slope of Lookout Mountain, as a summer camp for the girls. A small farming operation was established and maintained by three of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart. The camp dormitory, built of native rock and named the Stone House, was completed in 1914 and later listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [17] Where Cabrini had once located an underground spring on the mountainside, a replica of the Lourdes Grotto was built in 1929, later replaced by a simpler sandstone structure. After Cabrini's canonization, the campsite officially became a shrine. Extensive additions in 1954 included a long Stairway of Prayer for pilgrims following her footpath up the mountain, marked with the Stations of the Cross, leading to a 22-foot (7 m) Statue of Jesus at the summit. [18] In 1967, a system of foster care replaced the orphanage, and Queen of Heaven closed. The summer campsite became a year-round facility for retreats and small prayer gatherings. A new convent building, completed in 1970, includes housing for the resident Sisters, overnight accommodations for visitors, a chapel dedicated to the Sacred Heart, and an exhibit of artifacts and clothing once used by Cabrini. [17] The statues and stained-glass windows of the chapel came from Villa Cabrini Academy in Burbank, California, a former school founded by the Missionary Sisters. [18] Manhattan, New York [ edit] Cabrini Shrine in Manhattan The St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Shrine in the Hudson Heights section of Manhattan overlooks the banks of the Hudson River and neighboring New Jersey. After her death in 1917, Cabrini was buried in West Park, New York. In 1933, her remains were moved to the chapel of Mother Cabrini High School in Manhattan. Following Cabrini's canonization in 1946, there were so many pilgrims coming to pray that a new shrine was built in 1957 on the school grounds. The shrine served the young women attending Mother Cabrini High School as a place for their liturgies and prayer services. Mother Cabrini High School was established in 1899. It closed June 30, 2014 after 115 years of educational service to women. [19] The major portion of Cabrini's body was enshrined under glass in the altar of the shrine. Her remains were later moved to a large urn, and replaced by a wax effigy in the glass display. Today, the shrine continues as a center of welcome for new immigrants and pilgrims of many nationalities who come to pray and reflect. [20] The street to the west of the shrine was renamed Cabrini Boulevard in her honor. Peru, New York [ edit] In 1947, one year after Cabrini's canonization, a shrine was dedicated to her in Peru, New York. The shrine is a stone grotto located on the grounds of St. Patrick's, a mission church built in 1841 for Irish immigrants. [21] [22] Southwark, London [ edit] Shrine in St George's Cathedral, Southwark In St George's Cathedral, Southwark, which Cabrini regularly attended during her time in London, a shrine to her was dedicated in 2009, designed by brothers Theodore, James, and Gabriel Gillick. The bronze sculpture depicts the saint watching over a group of migrants standing on a pile of suitcases. The Cabrini Mission Foundation, founded in 1998, is a non-profit organization that raises funds to support Cabrini programs and institutions focused on health care, education, and social services. [30] Cabrini was honored in 1996 when she was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame. [31] Milan Central railway station was dedicated to Francesca Cabrini in 2010. [32] Chicago's Cabrini–Green housing project, which has since been mostly torn down, [33] was named after her, due to her work with Italian immigrants in the location. It has since become a haven for underprivileged and poor people and the Cabrini Sisters still work there. Mother Cabrini Park was created in Brooklyn, New York, in 1992. [34] In a 2019 citywide survey, Mother Cabrini was "the leading vote-getter by far" among more than 300 nominees for the "She Built NYC" municipal statue program. When Mayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray received widespread criticism for overriding the results of their survey, Governer Andrew Cuomo and Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio pledged their support for a public memorial. [35] It is scheduled to be built in Manhattan's Battery Park City, looking out at the immigration landmarks of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
